Geohazards and landslide mapping
Compulsory module in BSc programme in Geology and Geohazards and in the international study Geohazards and Climate Change (30 ECTS).

Have a broad and general understanding of tsunamis, earthquakes, floods and landslides and how these can influence human society.
Detailed knowledge of different kinds of landslides; the slide process and trigger mechanism.
Be able to identify and interpret different kinds of traces from landslides in the field.
Be able to investigate and map previous slide events in an area and to discuss the risk for future events.
The course gives an overview of different kinds of geo-hazards; landslides, floods, tsunamis, earthquakes etc. We spend most of the time on landslides and explore rock slides, debris- slides and flows, quick-clay slides and snow avalanches. Examples from these are further investigated through practical exercises. An important part of the course is mapping of slides and risk analysis in the field and to evaluate trigger mechanisms for the various slides and other geo-hazards.
Undervisnings- og læringsformer
Lessons, assignments, excursions and fieldwork
6-7 days. First part is an excursion to look at sites of previous geo hazards (tsunamis, instable bedrock slopes, landslides). In the second part students work on their own mapping old slides and evaluate the risk for future slide events.
For excursions and field work, it is expected that students contribute towards their travel and residence expenses about 1000 NOK.

SK Written exam in English, 4 hours. Grading A-F.
