 Aims

Students will gain knowledge of the effects of medication, and will be able to administer drugs according to current regulations. During the course students acquire knowledge and skills on how to identify clients' needs and how to implement nursing and care. Also, students will learn how to perform emergency first aid. They will know the main features of the ageing process and they will be able to give an account of the most frequent deseases that old people experience.
Students will gain knowledge of the legal protection which applies to consumers of health- and social services. They will be familiar with how the use of force towards individuals with learning disabilities is regulated by law.

Contents

There are classes in medication, geriatrics and old age dementia. Further, there is teaching in nursing and care, both at a theoretical and practical level. Students also receive training in emergency first aid. The course focuses person-centred planning, the conditions for guardianship and the ability to implement interventions according to current regulations. Health law, specifically regulations regarding the use of force, is another focussed area.

 Teaching Methods

Seminars, lectures, groups, practical training, oral and written presentations.

 Course Requirements

Compulsory participation in the following classes:

  • medication
  • nursing and care
  • law
  • individual planning
  • first aid

In some suibjects there are also compulsory practical assignments.

Written test:

  • calculation of medication (must be 100% correct to pass)
Assessment

Practical oral examination. Grade: passes/not passed).
