Aims

Students will acquire historical and contemporary knowledge of the social educator profession. They are introduced to relevant ideologies and values, and they will learn how to work systematically with clients helping them to reach their goals through relevant services. Students will possess knowledge in communication and interaction, and they will be familiar with relevant theoretical perspectives in psychology.

Contents

Milieu therapy is an integral part of the course, focussing historical background as well as main concepts, theories and methods. Students are introduced to various environments where people with functional disabilities are to be found, and they learn how attitudes and skills are established. In psychology, lectures concentrate on behavioural, motivational and social psychology. Graduates will also be able to develop skills in communication and interaction.

Teaching Methods

Seminars, lectures, groups, conducting an interview with a social educator, role play, oral and written presentation.

Course Requirements
  • Lectures in mileu work.
  • Lectures in communication and interaction.
  • Conducting a qualitative interview with a social educator.
Assessment

Oral gruop presentation of written report. Grades: passed/not passed.
