Prerequisites

It is expected that students have gained knowledge from the previous courses of the programme.

Aims

Students will be able to develop their communicational skills and their ability of reflection in their future work with individual clients. They will become familiar with organisations and institutions where social workers are employed.

Contents

Students will get an introduction to ethics, identifying ethical questions, using theory and analysing situations relevant for social workers. Theories of communication and relations is presented, focussing the introduction and usage of a model of interacton. Students will become familiar with the basical principles of economic councelling, how to develop an individual plan and how to communicate this in a client oriented manner. Doing independent work in the field through oral and written presentations is an integral part of the course, based on knowledge gained from social science, law and social work methods.

Teaching Methods

Lectures, seminars and groups.

Course Requirements
  • All teaching is compulsory.
  • One individually written paper with one hour supervision and one written instruction.
  • Practice. Interview, report, presentation and response. The group report receives one written supervision during the writing process. Students must take part actively in all phases of the work.
Assessment

One oral group examination. Grading: passed or failed.
